Barnard Castle Library was opened in 1976, it is situated off the front street between Oxfam Shop and Clinton Cards offering a wide range of services and facilities for you and your family to enjoy. There is enough space behind the library for one car for use by the disabled. The library has a passenger lift at the main entrance which gives access to the main library for use by the less able and people with prams etc.

Teesdale's main tourist information centre is in Barnard Castle, ideally located close to the centre of town, the castle and Scar Top picnic area. There is full access for wheelchair users and RADAR keys are also on sales. The centre now boasts a Cyber Coffee Shop offering high speed Internet access and freshly ground Fair-trade coffee. Open all year.

The Station is located in Wilson Street, Barnard Castle, having been built in 1969. Personnel currently train every Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning and do additional work on Saturday mornings. This includes visiting high risk sites in the area, checking and maintaining all hydrants and, systematically performing community fire safety work in the Barnard Castle area.
